I was wondering if there is any obstruction that would keep others from retracing their journey.

The ice pack changes yearly, so it is doubtful that crack in the ice would still be there, particularly after all this time.

Personally, I have not found any evidence of polar openings on any of the planets or moons. But I do have evidence that planets (and many moons) are hollow, and access can be obtained from fissures and caverns. It is quite possible that when they traveled through was a fissure, not a polar opening.
